Uganda proposes circumcision study as Global Fund withholds $12m

The Guardian reports that the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria has withheld $12 million from Uganda due to concerns over accountability. Several health ministers are now under investigation for corruption. However, the Global Fund doesn't appear satisfied with the current inquiry.

Meanwhile, Uganda's health ministry has proposed conducting its own study on the effectiveness of male circumcision in the HIV/AIDS fight, expressing doubts over the WHO recommendation.

Hasn't Uganda already begun to implement male circumcision? Perhaps those are private efforts ...

    This site is owned by WebMD.com. It is a great source for breaking news. I wouldn't necessarily trust it completely on the issue of circumcision as it is US-based. But the HIV/AIDS coverage is pretty good.

    The University of California - San Francisco is a leading medical teaching and research university in the HIV/AIDS field. Generally very reliable, it occasionally oversells or misstates the prevention message, most obviously and unfortunately regarding circumcision.
